Linear gate repair in Houston typically runs $180 to $540 for most board, limit switch, and arm failures, and we can usually get a tech to your property within 48 hours. The price depends on which Linear series you have and whether we’re replacing a capacitor or rebuilding an arm. We’re an independent Linear service provider, not a factory shop, which means we stock the common failure parts locally and don’t make you wait on a manufacturer’s parts chain. This page is for Houston homeowners whose Linear operator has stopped doing what it’s supposed to do: gates that won’t open, open halfway, beep but don’t move, or reverse for no reason. Call (325) 378-0676 and describe the symptom. You’ll get a straight dollar range before we ever send a truck.
How Linear Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
- LSO and LDO series swing-arm operators: capacitor failure after 3 to 5 years. The motor capacitor sits inside the operator housing and gives the motor its starting jolt. In Houston’s heat, caps swell and pop earlier than Linear’s own service intervals expect. The gate hums but won’t move. We replace the capacitor and test the motor windings while we’re in there, because a bad cap sometimes takes the motor with it.
- APeX and MegaCode receivers: intermittent opening from a fading radio signal. The receiver board picks up interference from nearby cell towers and security systems. The gate opens sometimes, not others, usually from shorter range than it used to. We re-tune the receiver, replace the antenna if it’s corroded, and install a fresh MegaCode transmitter if the old one has drifted off frequency.
- Gate opener arms (the actuator itself) bending at the clevis pin on Linear swing models. The clevis pin connects the arm to the gate bracket. When a gate sags or the hinges wear, the arm takes a side load it was never designed for and the pin hole elongates. The gate makes a clunking sound near the end of its travel. We straighten or replace the arm, then fix whatever caused the sag so the new arm doesn’t fail the same way.
- Limit switch failures on Linear slide operators, especially the SLR and SLD lines. These little switches tell the board when to stop the gate at full open and full close. When one fails, the gate slams the end stop, keeps grinding, or stops three feet short. We set the limits mechanically, then verify them through the board so the gate stops soft instead of hammering the post.
- Control board voltage regulator burnout after a power surge. Linear boards are picky about incoming power. A lightning strike or a brownout cooks the regulator and the gate goes dead, no display, no response. We replace the board when it’s burned, or the regulator when it’s still worth saving, and recommend a surge protector sized for gate operators so it doesn’t happen again in July storm season.

Our Linear Gate Repair Process
- 1
You call and describe what the gate is doing. Tell us the symptom, the model if you know it, and what you’ve already tried. We’ll give you a ballpark quote on the phone.
- 2
A tech arrives in the window we gave you. Uniformed, background-checked, with the common Linear parts already on the truck. You know who’s pulling into the driveway.
- 3
Diagnostics first. We test the board inputs, check power at the operator, and run the gate through a manual cycle. We find the failure before we touch a wrench on the repair itself.
- 4
We write the price down. Parts and labor, a real number on paper, before any repair work starts. No after-the-fact surprises, ever.
- 5
We do the repair and test it. We cycle the gate open and close at least ten times, check the safety edges, and verify the force settings so the gate reverses if a kid or a dog gets in the path.
- 6
We clean up and hand you the guarantee. Written on the invoice, good for 365 days. If the same repair fails inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge.

AfterWhat Linear Gate Repair Costs in Houston
Every job gets a written price before we start, but here are the ranges we usually see on Linear repairs in Houston:
- Capacitor replacement: $180 – $280 parts and labor
- Limit switch replacement and re-set: $220 – $340
- Control board replacement (aftermarket or OEM): $320 – $540
- Actuator arm replacement on a swing gate: $400 – $700
- Full diagnostics visit with no repair needed: $85 – $125
What moves the price: whether we’re replacing a $30 part or a $300 board, whether the gate needs realignment after the fix, and whether we can use a quality aftermarket part or need OEM for warranty reasons. We’ll always give you the number in writing before work begins. Call (325) 378-0676 for an exact quote. Estimates are free.
Why Houston Homeowners Call Portcullis Gate Repair Houston for Linear Work
Because they’ve already called the other company. That’s the honest answer. We hear it every week: someone was told the board is out and they need a full operator replacement, and then our tech finds a $45 limit switch doing the actual killing. Dean Prescott started this shop on that simple idea, that the gate trade needs fewer parts-swappers and more people willing to find the real failure. Every repair we do carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise, written on the invoice. If it fails inside a year, the return visit is free. We’re a Kingswell company, which means every tech on your property follows the same four guarantees: a written price before work starts, a real arrival window, a clean job site, and a written guarantee on the repair. We also service LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing, so if your Linear turns out to be the wrong operator for the gate you actually have, we can tell you straight and quote you a sensible replacement.
FAQs
It depends on the age of the unit and what we’re replacing. Linear’s factory warranty typically runs one to two years, and we can preserve it by using OEM parts when required. Most of the Linear gates we see in Houston are well past their factory warranty, which means using quality aftermarket parts for common failures saves you money without a warranty risk. We’ll tell you which applies before we order anything.
Most Linear repairs are done within 48 hours of your call. We keep the common failure parts on the truck, so a board swap or capacitor replacement usually doesn’t need a second visit. For unusual parts, we can source them in two to three business days and schedule the return trip in the window we’ve committed to.
If the gearbox is still sound and the gate itself is in good shape, a repair usually makes more sense than a replacement, especially on Linear’s older swing-arm models that were built heavier than today’s replacements. If the board, arm, and motor are all worn, or the operator is more than 15 years old and parts are getting scarce, we’ll tell you that honestly and quote a replacement. We don’t push replacements when a repair will get you another five years.
That’s usually a limit switch fault or a force setting that’s drifted out of range. The board thinks the gate has hit an obstruction and reverses or stops for safety. We re-set the limits, check the force settings, and test the safety edges to confirm the gate isn’t actually meeting resistance. Call (325) 378-0676 and we’ll walk you through a quick check on the phone before we send a tech out.
We carry the parts that fail most often in Houston’s climate: motor capacitors, limit switches, receiver boards, and control boards for the LSO, LDO, SLR, and APeX lines. Less common parts get ordered from our supplier and arrive in a couple of days. We’ll tell you up front whether we can fix it in one visit or two.
